Importance of MSI or Multi-Warehousing Systems in E-Commerce

Importance of MSI or Multi-Warehousing Systems in E-Commerce

Let us understand the important concepts like dropshipping and In-Hand/ Hold Inventory of the Multi-Warehousing System through some Use Case examples:-

Dropshipping:- A furniture store owner has a total inventory of sofas as 50 out of which 10 are kept in his physical store. A customer who wishes to buy 20 sofa sets for his hotel, let’s say, bumps into this furniture store and asks the store owner for 20 sofa sets. It is likely that the physical store will not have the 20 sofa set stock as the physical store will not hold that much space, which means, the store owner will have to contact a manufacturer so as to dropship the required number of sofa sets to the customer.

In-Hand Inventory:- For instance, a global inventory of, let’s say, men's shirt is 100. A physical outlet sells 20 shirts, 30 shirts are sold on Amazon and 50 shirts are being sold on eBay. This concept of Multi-Channel inventory splits the stock is an essential aspect of MSI. The stock which is present in the physical outlet is the In-Hand Inventory which is managed by the POS agent, on behalf of the customer when a customer makes a purchase from the physical outlet.

Hold Inventory:- If a customer has purchased suppose, 10 paintings, out of which 5 paintings were damaged and the customer generates a refund request for the same. Until the refund is executed and the inventory stock is updated to 10, the inventory will be on hold, which is also called the Hold Inventory (5 paintings).

    Creating/Managing New Sources

When talking of E-Commerce features, MSI definitely tops the list as a faster product delivery to the customers is the prime motive of any e-commerce site.

In an era where online purchasing has become a trend, MSI plays an important role in terms of inventory management. The major advantage which the sellers can leverage from the MSI feature is that it facilitates the merchants to manage the inventory of their stores from multiple locations. • The MSI feature is available to the sellers only when the admin creates the sources in the admin panel.
    • The Assign Sources option is present on the Marketplace Add New Product page.
    • On clicking the Assign Sources tab, the sellers can add the sources and assign the stock to the sources.

    Adding New Source

    Seller Product List

One of the most convenient features added to the product list is to check the source and stock quantity.

    • Now the admin and seller can check the quantity of the source and stocks at the product page for each product.
    • The seller does not require to view the product details to check the assigned stocks for the product.
    • The admin can also check the salable quantity and stock quantity for the seller’s products.
    • This feature is available just to reduce the efforts from the seller and admin’s end.

    Excellent Support

Webkul has an extensive list of Magento 2 modules. They range from simple tools to complex inventory management systems that sync with custom mobile apps. I have run into issues with some of the Webkul modules conflicting with other modules I am using, which is to be expected. But Webkul's customer service and ability to figure out and fix all problems is the main reason for their 5 star review.
